1957 Ape C AC1T 5468
1957 Ape C AC1T 5468
Hi everyone,
I can't speak a word of Italian, other than to say Rome or ciao, so I'm going to have to learn. If you can help along the way it will be great.
I have recently purchased a 1957 Ape C and am in need of a few parts.
I will list what i can see after looking at the parts book, but there is probably a lot more:-
Heat shield/cooling shroud for the engine and the exhaust pipe.
Air cleaner assembly.
Rear view mirror.
Pivot pin for seat/engine cover.
Speedo and cable.
Switch on R/H steering grip.
If you have any spares that suit an Ape C I would be interested.
I live in Bali, Indonesia, but will have parts sent to Australia and bring them in from there.
Ciao

Re: 1957 Ape C AC1T 5468
there is no problem here , get the same translation robot that ken uses
apart from that i can help you out with language stuff .
the best way to proceed is strip the ape totally and redo it from a-z .
as many parts as possible from one supplier saves transport cost,
collect parts with a friend in italy and then send them as bulk to australia .
when stripping your ac make pics, lots of pics.
look at restorations in the "my ape section" there is lots to learn there.
and ........post pics here......

Re: 1957 Ape C AC1T 5468
lovely the lid on the glove box.........window wiper and handle ?.............go back to the original outside filler!
from what i can see your machine can be restored more or less like mine as far as the condition is concerned .
i saw a carb/filter for sale in italy but thougt it was expensive , finding a wreck would be the best .
ask ken to talk to to his contacts .
the front side screens can be made from modern plastic , you will need a new rubber ( aronne) the old one will have to be replaced anyway because of age.
it merits a full restore , hope you will do so .
just look at the luksenior restoration and you know yours is a walk in the park like mine........at least you could immagine so....

Re: 1957 Ape C AC1T 5468
there were some mods to the master cyl and carb too.........guess your master brake cyl is from indonesia............
maybe the carb/filter was ok for you after all , does your ape run ? what kind of carb is on it? i doubt its the original one...............
knb for the damper?
weird engine support rubber...............
slowly take it apart and make pics make pics make pics.
the top-bottom divide is luxury as it seems to be with welded on bolts.
handbrake?
contact lock ? left hand handlebar switch?

Re: 1957 Ape C AC1T 5468
I thankyou for your enthusiasm. I do plan to restore to original specifications, with original parts as much as possible. Any advice is most welcome. I know about the brake master cylinder being non original. When I first saw it they said this. It works well, I have driven it a little. It was driven to our house from about 15 minutes away. I drove it up and down our quiet cul-de-sac, before parking and the search for parts begun. I look forward to driving it to work once in a while when finished. I'm about to acquire a Vespa or two, maybe with a (non original) side car. This machine is the same age as myself and I'm looking for a 1957 Vespa as well.
You can never take too many photos, of that I know, and I do intend to do so, so that craft (Can't remember a flamin thing) doesn't set in. The differential oil level stick is corroded in, I hace tried even with penetrant to remove an have just busted the bakelite knob trying to remove.
Best I learn to upload photos real fast.
I take it from your comments that the machine doesn't come with a back rest and I need to find the original filler. Was wondering why it had a large repair carried out in that area.
Finding a wreck would be the best solution.
Keep prodding me to keep the project moving a long.
Is there anway to find out how many Ape's came to Indonesia?

like mine ...........as far as i know.........the ad version is bigger ( got that filter and carb)
look at the ac3 manual or pics from my ape to see what this stuff is like .
taking things apart is always the first thing to do.
