Olio Cambio P601
Olio Cambio P601
Ciao Ragazzi!

Re: Olio Cambio P601
Dieguito: Is your P601 a Lubrificatione Separata? - If it is, it will have a separate oil tank to mix with the gasoline. Fill the gas tank with regular gas but don't mix oil with the gas. The Manual calls for SAE40 oil in the oil tank which will then mix automatically with the gasoline at a rate of 2%. If yours is not L.S. then you must mix the gasoline at 2% yourself. As for changing the oil in the differential, the drain plug is under the motor and is accessed through a round hole in the flat part of the frame between the suspension arms. The drain plug is magnetic so check for metal filings when cleaning it. After draining, put the plug back in and then undo the filler which is located as in the attached photo. Fill with SAE40 oil, approx. 900ml. The oil filler has a minimum and maximum level on it and you'll see that when you unscrew it and examine it. I think you're going to need an owners manual. Ken

Re: Olio Cambio P601
Lay on your back on the ground and slide your head under the frame at the rear, between the suspension arms. You'll see a round hole in the bottom plate of the frame and in the center of that hole is the drain plug. When you undo it and the oil is draining into a plastic bucket clean the top of the plug. It's magnetic and designed to collect metal shavings during the operating times of the motor and can be cleaned and washed with a rag soaked in Varsol or a bit of gasoline. Put it back in and tighten it before you start filling the crankcase with oil. If you don't have a filler spout with a long neck, make a filler from a magazine cover, just roll it into a cone, put in in the filler hole and pour away! - disposable - If you download the P501 Handbook from my website there are pictures on page 30 showing the drain plug and filler and quantity of new oil required when drained and check frequently! (must be kept between Minimum and Maximum marks). There's a Minimum and Maximum marked on the filler dipstick - SAE40 when it's hot outside and you can use SAE30 in the winter months. Print off a copy and use it for reference. It's the Bible. The attached photos are from a P601 Manual but are correct for the P501 as well. - Ken

Re: Olio Cambio P601
The only oil that goes in the engine goes into the filler. The oil services the crankcase including the clutch, gear shifter and the final drive to the driveshafts and lubricates everything below the top of the piston. The fuel mix of 2% lubricates the top end, that's why the mix is critical. 2 stroke oil in the mix burns cleaner than a mix using SAE40 oil which leaves lots of carbon deposits on the top of the piston and in the exhaust. If you have oil deposits in your driveway when the Ape is sitting it's usually caused by bad oil seals on the driveshafts where they come out of the motor. Do you have an owners manual? It also has a wiring diagram and most everything you should become familiar with. Ken
