We have a 2009 Piaggio Ape 50CC which has been converted into a coffee cart (http://www.thelittlecoffeevan.com). Because of the conversion it is carrying up to 250Kg (in addition to its own weight of 247kg) and the standard manufacturer's rear shock absorbers and springs cannot do the job, so the ride height has dropped very close to the rear wheels.
Has anyone replaced their springs and shock absorbers with something stronger that can carry this kind of weight without dropping? Any ideas where we can get upgraded springs or exactly what we need to ask for? (We're based in the UK)
Thanks
Paul

Paul: Best to look into air shocks, often used by hot rod folks, and I had them on my Honda Gold Wing. With a mini air compressor you can adjust the ride height and compression of the shocks under load. The control would be mounted in the cabin and you make adjustments prior to moving out. Make sure before you do this you don't take off too quickly or you'll wind up on your butt!

Hi - I read your post and wondered what you eventually did re suspension?
I've recently bought an Ape 50 that's been decked out as a coffee van and am having the same problem/concern! Also in UK!
Any help/advice would be hugely appreciated! Georgina

I work on the bigger Ape's - different kettle of fish than an Ape 50. Best contact Tukxi.com as they do conversions and would be the best to give advice/help. Not designed for the weight you're carrying. I have a hard time keeping my clients from overloading their Ape. Suspension is different and cargo rated tires help as well as new rubber bumpers for the rear suspension. Keep weight as far forward as possible if unable to lighten the load - Ken
