Great to see that East Orange Ape - what is the VIN prefix of that ape? I have one that was first sold in Mass. that has an ACA2T prefix, but a D engine.

Best of luck getting both back on the road!

Piaggio often used the stock of old spare parts on vehicles built for the foreign market. An example

It was more the serial number I've tried to decipher, as it doesn't show up on any lists - I'm pretty certain it's mostly if not all AD1, but why the number change for the foreign market?

I don't know. I asked to Piaggio an official chassis number list, received no answer.

This is about ACA1T: http://modernvespa.com/forum/topic66924.

On the ApeVintage register ( http://www.apevintage.com/cgi-bin/vista.pl ) I found:
ACA2T 1069 Sonoma CA
ACA2T 24388 Rockport (Massachusetts) - 1969
ACA2T 27798 Santa Barbara CA

I think Piaggio used the prefix ACA1T and ACA2T for vehicles built for american market. Maybe the "A" letter means "America".

Original importer into USA was in Boston - VESCONI INC. Client of mine in USA has this Ape and was also confused by the serial number - have a look, slight difference in the serial number - Ken

The A in the serial number probably designates 'America'

I saw the registry, and I bought it from a gentleman who rode it daily, but had it registered as a vintage auto - town was Rockport, Maine. I did get some of the original paperwork with the sale.

Thanks for the help all, hope to have this registered and on the road this year.
