What is the correct method to adjust the clutch cable to suit the correct gears?

My Ape is stuck in first gear and reverse is not working properly.

Any advice appreciated

Question: how many km's on your odometer? Post a photo of the Ape with one of the motor compartment taken from above with the engine hatch out of the way. It may be the brass actuating pad and steel thrusting plate are worn and maybe even the clutch plate.
Where the clutch cable is attached to the lever on the clutch housing the pinch bolt can be loosened, cable pulled tight but there must be a bit of free play in the lever ( up to 1/4" ) or the two pieces mentioned above rub against each other and the brass wears easily.
Simply tightening the cable may not solve your problem I'd say. - Ken

Hi Doc.
Wonder if this is a common story?

MPMT2 1981.
501 motor recently rebuilt to exact specifications.

Without my knowlege, 75 gear oil administered by someone else.
Oil did not need to be changed, as I pointed out that major rebuild had taken place in 2017.
Didn't understand their reasoning. Bike mech insisted they know better.

Ape driven only 1 km before issue began.
Gear oil since corrected to SAE 30 motor oil. i have changed it twice.
Clutch cable at full extension.
Bike mech wants to disassemble clutch and take a look inside.
I am like S;:

They do not know better! I'd pull the Ape out of there - if it were me it wouldn't be in there in the first place!

Print the photo. Every likelihood something else is wrong inside the clutch housing but can't see from here. Ask you once again, where are you located? - send me an email - Ken
