Here are three more photos used to advertise an Ape Classic, an Ape 50 and a TM. The same mistake applies to the TM and Classic. Here's a Depliant for the Ape 50 which is correct. Ken

DING DING - time's up. "flopped" or "mirror" images. Wikipedia says - Use in advertising
"There are two main uses in advertising, one practical, and one subjective. On a practical level, images of cars are often flopped to ensure cars look appropriate for left-hand-drive or right-hand-drive markets. This allows the results of a single production shoot to be used across markets, allowing a cost saving. On a subjective level, the direction in which a person is looking or a car appears to be travelling may be regarded as important. When placing a picture on a page of text, it is usual for depictions of people to face into the text, rather than off the page; thus, when compositing a page, a picture may be flopped so it may be placed either side of a column of text." - The problem with a 3wheeler such as the Ape is that the 'tubo sterzo completo' shows up on the wrong side. That's why you don't see the gas tank. Hold a mirror up to the photo and you'll see how the photo was produced and then the Advertisers flipped it to produce the advertisement. I find it hard to believe Piaggio would allow this. Here's a photo of the new 'Ape City' being produced in India which uses the Calessino front fender arrangement, new type wheel rims with hubcaps. As you can see, the steering column is on the wrong side. There's another photo showing it correctly. Those of you with TM's or Classic's know what side the steering column is on. The Ape 50 is produced with the steering column on the other side. With digital imaging never assume what you see is correct in Advertising. - Ken

FINALLY I've found a depliant for the early Api that were imported to USA market and what's interesting is that the headlight is identical to those mounted on the ACMA Vespa triporteurs as well as those of Brasil. It was found in a Portland, Oregon, USA Vespa Dealership. It's moving to California. - Ken
