Hi Ken, I didn't mean the retaining clip, it's a gasket

.

A standard O-ring would be ok?

Ah yes, the bloody gasket! Usually cracked, worn or missing. Allows dust inside if missing, making things a real mess. Hard to come by you may have to make one yourself or visit the wrecking yards. - Ken

I've just found it on an online store but it's not in stock now... I'll wait, i need a new shaft before.

About the shaft, any ideas why is it so worn? I think it turns into "soft" materials ( aluminium ?) inside the clutch, and it's made of steel... Maybe something wrong inside?

When it spins it wears. Wearing is caused by problems higher up, in the distributor itself. Often when the actuating pad is worn small pieces move up into the distributor and sometimes seize and break the tip of the drive pin. Look at the actuating pad and carefully examine the distributor - Ken

This drive pin is from a July 1982 version of P501 where many changes in the parts book occurred in May of that year so note the different base on the pin. Examine the wire circlip top and bottom of the distributor central shaft to see if one is missing which would cause a 'wobble' - Ken

I've not checked yet the actuating pad but, due to high mileage of this motor i'll change theese components

Yes, both clips are there. Now take the drive pin, insert it in the slotted base and wiggle it to see if the shaft inside the distributor is worn and would wobble. Looks awfully good from here. Probably a design change of the base of the drive pin was ordered by Piaggio because that model had some problems with the two pieces not being concentric with wear. Your crankshaft will not accommodate the revised drive pin. - Ken

Good morning Ken, just tried what you wrote, the shaft inside the distributor has just a bit of axial "tolerance" ( I don't know a word for " gioco" in english) , it's normal i suppose, no strange movements in other directions.
I think that the wear of the drive pin is caused ( also) by the huge gap between the pin of the drive pin and the slot of the distributor shaft ( highlighted in yellow), in blue the drive pin " abnormal" wooble

Actually, i can only find the revised type as spare online, it might be a problem. i'm going to ask tomorrow

a new drive pin may solve the problem because it will not be worn - something to keep an eye on though as you use your Ape - Ken
