I believe what you are showing here are the 6 volt and 12 volt versions of the starters for the AD1, and then the generator.

Yours didn't have the starter gear off the clutch? Because what you call the dynamotor looks like the generator in both my Ape and 64 VW bus. I'd be interested to see the dynamotor set-up.

It was more the serial number I've tried to decipher, as it doesn't show up on any lists - I'm pretty certain it's mostly if not all AD1, but why the number change for the foreign market?

Great to see that East Orange Ape - what is the VIN prefix of that ape? I have one that was first sold in Mass. that has an ACA2T prefix, but a D engine.
